This Studio is Called Mir
Mir (мир) is the Russian word for "peace." It's also an old space station.
Mir Studio is a small recording studio located in west-central Oklahoma City. I found myself (Dustin Ragland) in need of more space and flexibility with a cadre of artists coming over to various spaces and studios to co-write, envision, record, mix, and edit all kinds musical ideas and projects. I have been a working instrumentalist (usually drummer) for 11 years, and a recordist for 8 years. I have also taught production classes at ACM@UCO in Oklahoma City for 4 years.
The studio itself consists of a control room with high, non-parallel ceilings and walls, a controlled but not un-live room for listening and mixing. There is a small iso booth ideal for vocals and acoustic instruments, as well as amps. There is a drum room ideal for both live and controlled tracking of larger intruments, drums, as well as being a storage and load-in space. The space also has a fully-equipped bathroom, including a shower.
The process can vary from a full production of a songwriter, to engineering an experienced live band, to working to co-write sketches of songs, to programming only, tracking drums and sending via Dropbox, etc. etc. Lots of options in these days, lots of ways to make music across borders.
Mir Studio is built around a modest but versatile array of analog and digital gear, including gear from Chandler Ltd., Lauten Mics, Oktava Mics, Cascade Mics, Shure Mics, Yamaha, Orban, DBX, Summit Audio, Lindell Audio, Alesis, Waves, Softube, Soundtoys, MOTU, and more.
I record into Logic, and Ableton Live. I love to work on projects recorded in any DAW.
There are various instruments and pedals floating around the space, including C and C Drums, Wurlitzer EP200, Fender Guitars and Amps, Walrus Audio Pedals, Akai and Roland Drum Machines, and many sundry bits of melody and percussion.
Rates are pretty standardized but tend to work best when paired with each new project. If you are interested in working with me, please email me and we can go through and design an entire recording budget based on your needs. This is an ever-changing landscape of music making and costs, so please find help (even if not from me) in navigating it!
